The Uniqueness of an Antique Glass Coffee Table

Antique Glass Coffee Table

Antique furniture adds pizzaz to a room, especially because antique furniture can be modified. Antique pieces bring an element of the old into a modern space, and because antique pieces of furniture have been used by different people and in different places throughout their long life, they also tells a story. Antique furniture can be played with, reupholstered, refinished, repainted, mixed and matched, and admired.

Antique armoires and chairs are found in abundance, but it is not so often that one finds an antique glass coffee table. A statement such as an antique glass coffee table would look so bold in a living area. Because glass is delicate and does not usually hold up very well with age, it could be hard to find an original antique coffee table with pristine glass. However, there is a way that the concept of a glass topped antique table can be built using a bit of assemblage.

There are many antique tables which have very ornate leg designs. Some of these table bases are made of lovely twisting iron made to look like vines growing up a trellis. Other antique tables are made of excellent wood and the legs have been carved by a creative and talented craftsman. The intricate details of antique furniture are what makes most pieces so interesting. One way to create a glass topped antique table is to go to flea markets and antique stores until a table is found with the most interesting and captivating design to the base.

The base of the table will be conserved, while the top of the table can be taken off by someone who is experienced in and deals with antique furniture. Now that the base and the top of the table are disconnected, a new piece of glass can be cut to lay on top of the table base. The unique mix of fresh cut and perfect glass top and the highly detailed and intricate antique base will truly make the piece captivating and original. The best part about the glass top, is that it's transparent nature allows the eyes to travel through the glass and down to the base of the table. This puts the unique antique details on display while at the same time creating a coffee table. If there isn't anything to talk about over coffee, a table like this is a sure way to start a conversation.
